2000-2001 FLORIDA WINTER WEATHER OUTLOOK ARCHIVE

There are many signs that the upcoming winter season will be colder and wetter then normal in the eastern U.S., especially the mid Atlantic and New England regions and consequently warmer out west. I will however avoid some meteorological buzz words like -NAO, etc. which cause many eyes to glaze over.

This upcoming winter season will certainly be colder, as at the very least we will return to a more normal pattern, as compared to the recent warmer then normal El Nino winters of 1997-98 and La Nina winters of 1998-99 and 1999-2000.

Across the country as a whole we should see slightly warmer and drier conditions in the Rocky Mountains, southwest and southern plains, near normal temperature and precipitation in the Pacific northwest and central coast regions and colder and wetter in the eastern 2/3's of the U.S., especially New England and the Mid Atlantic region.

It appears that Florida will face the worst potential freeze threat since the winter of 1995-96.
