NOTES-
Here on the south side of Lakeland June was cooler and wetter than normal. This is the fifth month in a row with below normal temperature, following December 2006 and January 2007, which together were the warmest since the El Nino winter of 1982-1983.
The normal seabreeze/boundary collision thunderstorm inducing rainy season began on June 18, approximately two weeks late. Much like June 2006 appreciable rainfall on a daily basis was below normal. The culprit was persistent longwave troughing in the eastern U.S. and associated surface cold fronts (two) and continental origin surface high pressure systems pumping drier than normal air into the state from the NE. Even with repeated dry air intrusions the month ended up wetter than normal due to heavy rainfall totals on three separate days.
When the weather pattern was in a wet period
the predominant wind direction was from the west versus the more normal east.
