NOTES-
Here on the south side of Lakeland August was near normal temperature wise and slightly wetter than normal.
Much like July 2007 appreciable rainfall on a daily basis was below normal. However even with the dry air intrusions the month ended up slightly wetter than normal due to heavy rainfall totals on five separate days.
The culprit was repeated periods with longwave troughing in the eastern U.S., as well as the deep layered Sonoran heat ridge expanding eastward into the S.E. U.S. This allowed continental origin surface high pressure systems to pump drier than normal air into the state from the NE at low and mid levels. The Sonoran heat ridge brought upper and mid level drying due to subsidence.
